Nissan lifts the covers off SA bound Magnite
Nissan have unveiled their all-new Magnite compact SUV in India, where the new model will be manufactured. The new Nissan Magnite combines sleek new styling, innovative technologies, optimum efficiency and reinforced safety features.
The new Magnite is a key model for markets across Africa, the Middle East and India and forms part of a broader product offensive and Nissan’s strategy to position India as a manufacturing hub under Arc, Nissan’s mid-term business plan.
Nissan aims to export nearly 100 000 units to more than 65 markets in total by 2026, representing the largest coverage for a vehicle produced in Nissan’s Africa, Middle East, India and Oceania region.
Bold styling and advanced tech
Building on the success of the previous model, the new Magnite ups the ante with a tougher, bolder and more robust exterior that enhances its commanding road-presence. The Magnite features sleek LED headlamps with a lightsabre style turn indicator, the Magnite’s now signature L-Shape Daytime Running Lights alongside a bigger and bolder imposing grille and LED tail lamps with 3D Gradient Honeycomb pattern. The robust exterior styling is accentuated by all-new dual tone R16 Diamond Cut alloy wheels and roof rails.
The new model also boasts a floating skid plate upfront, and best in class ground clearance ensuring a good level of off-road ability.
Premium, well-equipped interior
Inside, the Nissan Magnite features a configurable TFT driver display measuring 17.78cm and featuring a dark theme. A floating 20.32cm touchscreen infotainment system that is home to Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay display and which works in conjunction with 3D sound by ARKAMYS and wireless charging is mounted centrally. Adding a premium touch is four-colour adjustable ambient lighting.
An optional tech pack adds a dashcam, wireless charger, premium JBL speakers, puddle lamps and LED scuff plates.
The unique 360 leather pack includes a brownish orange leatherette wrapped dashboard, leatherette seat upholstery, unique honeycomb quilting pattern, leatherette all door trim parking brake lever, steering and front armrest.
In cabin storage is impressive and is backed up by a 540-litre boot that can be expanded via a 60:40 rear seat split.
Innovative features include cruise control, remote engine start, walk away lock and approach unlock functions, cooled glove box storage and an on-board ionizer. An around view monitor gives a bird’s eye view and facilitates easy parking in urban environments.
Despite its compact dimensions, the Magnite can accommodate five passengers thanks to its generous wheelbase which allows it to offer excellent rear knee room, great front couple distance along with a high command driving position.
The latest in safety tech includes six airbags across all variants while the bodyshell’s integrity is reinforced with the use of reinforced steel. Electronic aids include Vehicle Dynamic Control, Traction Control System, Hill Start Assist, Hydraulic Brake Assist, ABS, EBD and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System.
Under the bonnet
The Magnite is available exclusively with a turbocharged 1.0-litre turbocharged engine that offers a great balance between economy and performance and which can be paired with either a manual or a X-Tronic continuously variable transmission.
South African introduction
The exact South African launch date and local specification of the all-new Nissan Magnite is yet to be confirmed.
