Nissan Navara Warrior attempts off-road driving record
TopGear SA and Navara Warrior set out to break off-road driving record
Just a few days after its local launch to the South African market, a team of five Nissan Navara Warriors set off on a record-breaking expedition at the hands of the TopGear SA team.
“Last year, Nissan Africa conceived Daring Africa, an eight-country, 8 000km odyssey linking our continental LCV manufacturing hub in Rosslyn with our passenger vehicle facility in Cairo. Setting an off-road world record seemed like the logical next step for our African Navara,” said Maciej Klenkiewicz, Nissan South Africa and Independent Markets Africa Managing Director.
Tackling the 600km Namaqualand Eco Route, along with a few additional loops, the driving team and their Navara Warriors spent four days traversing a route of over 1000km across barren mountains and through rocky valleys, along SA’s largest waterway, the Gariep river and back into the desolate expanse as they made their way to river’s end at the Atlantic Ocean. The aim was to set the record for traversing the longest off-road trail in the world in one go. The attempt is now being by ratified by the team from Guinness World records.
“These are some of the harshest driving conditions imaginable. We are confident that the Nissan Navara Warrior by Premcar will write itself into the World Records by being the first to undertake the longest off-road trial in the world,” enthused Ramy Mohareb, Nissan Africa’s head of communications.
What makes the Nissan Navara Warrior unique?
The Nissan Navara Warrior is a derivative of the Nissan Navara Pro4X, developed by Australian aftermarket specialists Premcar, which transforms the bakkie into a taller, wider vehicle with increased ground clearance.
The Nissan Navara Warrior rides on upgraded suspension that offers increased ride height and revised damping with the aim of ensuring maximum wheel articulation and control. Ground clearance has been increased from 221mm to 232mm.
The Navara Warrior boasts improved approach and ramp breakover angles along with increased front and rear track. The fitment of LT275/65/R17 Maxxis Razr AT tyres to black off-road wheels further bolsters its off-road pedigree.
The Warrior is sure to stand out from the crowd thanks to a number of enhanced styling cues, including a blacked-out front grille, door handles, red accents a roof rack, side steps, and the iconic black and red Nissan badge.
The interior is enhanced with black Warrior branded seats complete with red contrast stitching, an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, a configurable seven-inch driver assist display and dual-zone climate control.
Under the bonnet the Navara Warrior retains its powerful 2.5-litre DDTi high-output diesel engine that offers 140kW and 450Nm and which is paired to a seven-speed automatic transmission as well as 4WD.
Warranty and pricing
The Nissan Navara Warrior is sold with the same six-year/150 000km warranty as regular Navara models, which now also covers all the additional equipment and modifications.
The Nissan Navara Pro-4X Warrior retails for R924 000 and is now available from Motus Nissan dealerships.
