Nissan partners with Spirit of Africa for 20th year
Nissan sponsors long running Spirit of Africa competition
Nissan South Africa is proud to be the mainline sponsor of the 20th edition of Spirit of Africa. 2024 marks Nissan’s second year as the prestigious sponsor of this challenging off-road event which offers a taste of adrenaline and adventure like no other.
Nissan’s partnership with the event reaffirms the brands commitment to fostering a community of adventure seeking off-road enthusiasts and serves as the perfect showcase of the all-terrain capabilities and advanced technologies of the Nissan Navara. The Nissan Spirit of Africa is all about adrenaline, speed and experiencing the great outdoors.
“At last year’s inaugural Nissan Spirit of Africa challenge, we had a fantastic turnout of 300 teams who entered our gruelling and competitive race, with 400 teams expected to participate this year. We’ve strived for gold as this year’s challenge gets underway, with excitement building leading up to our female focused leg on 4-6 June. We encourage all female drivers to enter and tackle Africa’s toughest offroad course,” said Maciej Kleinkiewicz, Managing Director of Nissan SA.
The Spirit of Africa, which was conceptualised and is run by motorsport legend Sarel van De Merwe is renowned for its challenging terrain and thrilling atmosphere. It has been described as the toughest 4x4 challenge in Africa and provides the average driver with an opportunity to test their off-road ability in a competitive environment.
The event consists of an exciting three-day experience which includes camping under the African sky and the enjoyment of traditional local cuisine in between the intense off-road driving challenges.
The terrain includes steep inclines, muddy crossings and heart stopping descents which the Navara is able to conquer with ease.
Part of Nissan’s sponsorship sees all Spirit of Africa contests compete in identical Nissan Navara’s. The Nissan Navara has been expertly crafted for African roads, offering a proudly South African bakkie that is not only market competitive by global standards, but which is brimming with innovations that are tailored for Africa’s diverse landscape.
The Nissan Navara is known for being rugged and refined, while offering brute power as well as increased safety, control and comfort for all occupants.
The 2024 Edition of the Spirit of Africa is being held in the North West Province at Doringrivier farm, 14kms from the town of Zeerust.
